I am reaching out with concerns about the well-being of Shaka Shakur #1996207, an inmate at the Buckingham Correctional Center. Mr. Shakur is in the VDOC as part of an Interstate Compact with the Indiana Department of Corrections.

Mr. Shakur has received constant harassment and discrimination during his time at Buckingham in response to his political, community, and legal advocacy.

The forms of harassment include:

Tampering with his communications with the outside world, including his JPay and his mail.
Verbal insults among correctional staff speaking and collaborating with prisoners.
False Narratives being spread about him.
Tampering with his cell and theft of his legal documents.
Visitors of Shaka are being targeted with their car keys going missing by DOC staff during visits.

I urge you to please intervene and make direct contact with Mr. Shakur because the constant harassment violates the requirements of the Interstate Compact.

Community members, friends, and family are concerned for Shaka’s well-being if this harassment is not resolved.

Lastly I also want to express that Mr. Shakur is also in need of medical attention in the form of a colonoscopy to prevent the spread of cancer.
