Black August (黑色八月) Series

Black August is a time to recommit ourselves to the struggle for Black/New Afrikan liberation, for the freedom of all political prisoners and prisoners of war, and to increase our level of discipline. To commemorate Black August 2024, Free Shaka Shakur published the entirety of Shaka Adiyia Shakur’s latest book, From the Republic of New Afrika to Palestine: National Liberation in Context, in its entirety. We still encourage everyone to purchase a hard copy of the book and his other works, to donate to the Freedom Fund, and to send a letter for Shaka’s immediate release here!

The articles in this series are the first of Shaka’s works to be translated into another language. Given the historic solidarity between Afro-Asian peoples and the important role the People’s Republic of China has and does play in supporting colonized peoples, we felt it was important for his works to be available to the more than 1 billion people worldwide who read and speak Chinese, or Mandarin. Thanks to Indianapolis Liberation Center organizer Wednesday Jin for leading the translation efforts!

Black August is a month to prepare for the next year in the New Afrikan/Black Independence struggle. As George Jackson and Shaka Shakur both emphasize, that struggle must be internationalist if it is to succeed. Let this series be a contribution to that and many other efforts underway right now.
